There is a something for everyone in Connemara, and being at one of the main crossroads we are perfectly located to enjoy all the great festivals and events taking place in the area.
Sky Run – March
This is a unique event and the only one of its kind on the west coast of Ireland. 22km challenging race route involving steep ascents and descents, for experienced mountain runners only.
Connemara Mussel Festival – May Bank Holiday
Originally established to promote the excellence of the mussels of Killary harbour, this festival has grown to become a celebration of local people, food, culture and heritage, and is recognised as the premier food event for Connemara, attracting visitors from near and far.
Connemara Mountain Walking Festival – May Bank Holiday
This great festival has been designed to suit all levels of walkers from casual low level walks to the more experienced!
Connemara Adventure Challenge – May
This adventure race is 32km long and includes trail running, cycling & kayaking. Magical scenery in unspoilt, dramatic valleys, forests and harbours. An incredible setting that just has it all for adventure racing.
Bog Week – May
This unique festival provides a space for expression for the whole community and the variety of events for this years programme will as usual have something for all ages – whether you want to go walking or talking or making music or simply hanging out in the landscape then Letterfrack is the place to be.
Womens Adventure Race – July
This womens only event is 27km over beautiful Connemara terrain & includes kayaking, running & cycling.
Gaelforce West – June
This is Irelands Premier adventure race. The 67km event covers terran mountain scree, bogland, trails, sealed roads and the majestic waters of Killary Fjord.
Connemara Pony Festival – August
This festival celebrating the world renowned Connemara pony is built around the long running Connemara Pony Show.
Sea Week – October
Conamara Sea Week is a multidisciplinary festival. Highlights include a spectacular night-time parade of lights, music workshops, a small works art exhibition, a mini boat regatta, kite flying, a book fair, the Killary Challenge, music concerts and open sessions.
Killary Fjord Swim – October
The Great Fjord Swim is an open-water swimming event with a choice of 2 distances – 750m and 2km to suit everyone from first timers to cross-Channel wanna-best!
Turf Warrior – November
A 10 km challenge that will test your stamina, nerve and camaraderie. Turf Warrior is the obstacle course challenge that is packed full of adventure, mud, climbing, swinging, leaps into the Atlantic and all kinds of other mayhem and madness.
There are some world class visitor attractions right on our doorstep!
Connemara National Park
Situated in Letterfrack, Connemara National Park covers scenic mountains, expanses of bogs, heaths, grasslands and woodlands.
Located only a few minutes from Letterfrack village, Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Garden is one of Ireland’s most popular ‘must-see’ tourist attractions.
